Vadhandhi: The Mystery of Mani is a 2026 Indian Tamil-language mystery crime thriller streaming television series built, written and directed by Andrew Louis for Amazon Prime Video. It is the second instalment of the Amazon Prime's Vadhandhi franchise. The show was made by S. Guhapriya, S. Nandakumar, and Gowtham Selvaraj under the Wallwatcher Films banner and creatively made by Pushkar–Gayathri.

Sasikumar, Yashwanth, Anagha, Aparna Das, Vivek Prasanna, Revathy Sharma and Arjun Nandhakumar. The series premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 7 August 2026 and comprises eight episodes.

Plot§

Sub-Inspector Moosa Raaza, a honest and principled police officer, is serving a punishment posting in Madurai after challenging his superiors over his right to retain his beard for religious reasons. While working under Superintendent of Police Rathika Nair, Moosa becomes involved in an investigation after two human skeletons are discovered during excavation work for a highway project. The remains are eventually identified as those of Venba and Nilavathi, two young women who had disappeared several years earlier. Venba was the younger sister of Mani, a well-known jallikattu player, while Nilavathi was in love with him. Evidence recovered with the skeletons, along with witness statements and forensic findings, appears to set up Mani's involvement in both deaths. Mani is arrested and later sentenced to life imprisonment. Rather than protesting his innocence, though, he remains largely silent and accepts the verdict. Moosa becomes increasingly uncomfortable with the case despite the apparently conclusive evidence. His suspicions deepen when Mani attempts suicide in prison. Believing that Mani's behaviour is inconsistent with that of a man attempting to conceal two murders, Moosa begins examining the case again. Rathika supports him despite pressure from their senior officers to consider the matter closed. Moosa discovers that some of the evidence against Mani is less reliable than initially believed. A crucial witness, Kannappa, had claimed that Mani was seen near the location where the women were buried. Further questioning reveals that portions of his testimony were false and had been influenced by pressure surrounding the investigation. Mani nevertheless continues to withhold information around his past, making it difficult for Moosa to understand why he would willingly allow himself to be convicted. Rathika's husband, lawyer Sukumaran Nair, becomes involved in helping Mani and encourages him to speak openly around his relationship with Nilavathi. Mani recalls that Nilavathi had pursued him romantically before the two eventually became close. His recollections also reveal tensions within his family and circumstances surrounding Venba shortly before her disappearance. Although Mani provides some information, he deliberately conceals an important secret concerning his sister. The investigation takes another turn when forensic examination detects an unidentified male DNA profile associated with the remains. When apparently identical DNA is later linked to evidence from several other murder cases, Moosa and the forensic team consider the possibility that the crimes may be connected to an unidentified serial killer. The development attracts media attention and places further pressure on Rathika and Moosa, while their superiors seek a quick resolution. The apparent serial-killer theory begins to collapse when Moosa and forensic specialist Dr. Dhanapal investigate inconsistencies in the DNA results. They eventually determine that the recurring DNA profile does not belong to any murderer. The forensic swabs used to collect evidence in the different cases had been contaminated during manufacturing or packaging by a worker who handled them without gloves. His DNA was consequently transferred to samples from several unrelated crime scenes, creating the false impression that the same man had been present at multiple murders. With the DNA lead rendered meaningless, Moosa returns to Mani's personal history. He gradually discovers the real reason for Mani's silence. Venba had been romantically involved with her female friend Poorni, a relationship she kept secret because she feared social stigma and the effect its disclosure could have on her family. Mani had eventually learned around the relationship but chose to protect his sister's privacy even after her death. Sunderesan had himself been deeply in love with Venba and was unable to accept that she did not reciprocate his feelings. After discovering her relationship with Poorni, his behaviour became increasingly obsessive. Poorni was at one point abducted by him, but Mani intervened and rescued her. Mani's knowledge of these events explains why he refused to reveal everything during the murder investigation: exposing the circumstances surrounding Venba's private life would, in his view, betray his sister and subject her to humiliation even after her death. Moosa later uncovers another connection involving Kannappa, who had worked near the location where Venba and Nilavathi's bodies were eventually discovered and was connected to Sukumaran's family. The investigation ultimately leads to Sunderesan's mother, who reveals the events that occurred on the night the two women died. Distressed by her son's emotional deterioration over Venba, Sunderesan's mother blamed Venba for his suffering. She persuaded Venba to accompany her by claiming that Sunderesan might harm himself. Nilavathi, scared of sending Venba alone, went with her, but Sukumaran's mother mistakenly believed Nilavathi to be the woman with whom Venba was romantically involved and detained both women. In anger and desperation, she contacted her brother Kannappa and initially sought his help in killing them. She later regretted the decision and attempted to stop him, but by then the situation had escalated beyond her control. Kannappa, left with Venba and Nilavathi, sexually assaulted the women and murdered them. He concealed their bodies at the site where the skeletons would be discovered years later. His earlier false testimony had helped direct suspicion towards Mani and conceal his own role in the crime. The revelation finally establishes that Mani had no involvement in either murder. Sunderesan, devastated after learning the truth around his family's role in Venba's death, kills Kannappa, while the police take action against those responsible for the killings and their concealment. Although his freedom comes only after losing both his sister and Nilavathi and spending years being regarded as their murderer, mani is ultimately cleared and released from imprisonment. The case also profoundly affects Moosa. His investigation demonstrates how false testimony, concealed personal relationships, social prejudice and contaminated forensic evidence collectively made a convincing but incorrect version of events. After resolving the murders, Moosa reunites with his wife Sumayya and holds his newborn daughter. Having investigated the violence suffered by Venba and Nilavathi, his experience of becoming a father leaves him reflecting on the emotional cost of his profession and on whether uncovering the truth is ultimately a boon or a burden.

Production§

The series was announced as a part of Amazon Prime Video's future slate of content in March 2026. The show is the second season of 2022's Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie with a different cast and story. Made by S Guhapriya, S Nandakumar, and Gowtham Selvaraj under the Wallwatcher Films banner. Creative made by Pushkar–Gayathri, who made in the first season. The same director, Andrew Louis, who directed the first season, has returned to write and direct this season.

Casting§

On March 2025, Tamil film director and actor, M. Sasikumar was cast as police officer SI Moosa Raaza. This is his second role in a limited series after Nadu Center (2025). Actress Anagha and Aparna Das are playing important role. Actor Vivek Prasanna reprises his role from Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie.

Release§

Amazon Prime Video released the series' first teaser on 19 March 2026. The series premiered on 7 August 2026, with all eight episodes released simultaneously. It was released in Tamil and dubbed in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
